What angered people the most was a foreign livestream where Maynard openly degraded Chinese women, arrogantly stating, “They do whatever I tell them to do. They are extremely obedient.” This highly misogynistic and objectifying comment quickly went viral, triggering intense public outrage.

Maynard’s exploits were first exposed as early as 2012, but since his social media accounts were registered overseas, Chinese victims found it difficult to take legal action against him.
