3月10日之所以被稱為瑪利歐之日（Mario Day），是因為這天的日期寫作“Mar 10”，看起來很像拼出“MAR10”，和任天堂經典角色瑪利歐的名字相似！

這個非正式的節日大約從2016年開始由任天堂官方推廣，成為粉絲們慶祝這位紅帽水管工的特別日子。在這一天，任天堂常常會推出與瑪利歐相關的促銷活動、新遊戲內容、周邊商品，甚至舉辦各種主題活動，讓玩家一同回味經典、享受遊戲。有趣的是，雖然「瑪利歐之日」不是瑪利歐首次登場的紀念日（他的首次亮相是在1981年的《大金剛》），但這個日期因為諧音梗而變得生動又具代表性！
