Industries to Avoid in China in 2024:

Catering Industry: According to 2023 statistics, over a million catering businesses have closed in mainland China. Among them, the number of closures for fast-food and bubble tea shops exceeds 400,000, and hot pot restaurants exceed 100,000. The high rent and expensive equipment in this industry create a significant financial barrier, with initial capital for opening a restaurant requiring at least one million Taiwanese dollars.

The most profitable aspect of this industry is franchising and recruiting. It is almost a risk-free business, as franchisees receive fees regardless of the profitability of individual outlets. Some even send employees to manage stores, collecting management fees and various supply chain charges.

Apparel Industry: Due to the fast-paced nature of product replacement, with four seasons in a year, purchasing needs to begin one to two months before each season. Poor sales data for a season may lead to substantial losses, especially as many middlemen or contract factories sell clothes online. With consumer habits shifting toward online shopping, physical apparel stores struggle to generate profits unless they are major brands like Uniqlo or Zara.

Baby Products Stores: With China experiencing a negative population growth, many individuals, under economic pressure, are choosing not to marry or have children. This industry's outlook is increasingly bleak.

Financial Investment: Rapid foreign capital outflows, coupled with a stagnant real estate market, have led people to urgently sell their properties. This has resulted in a reduced amount of additional funds for stock market investments, and the market indices are showing a long-term bearish trend.
