Lu Yuguang's wife is from Russia, named Marina Alekhina, and her father has served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in Russia. Due to his strong pro-Russian political stance, in his interviews with Ukrainians, he expressed Ukrainian’s dissatisfaction with the attacks by the Ukrainian army, hoping for the liberation by Russia. However, some netizens pointed out that his translations might contain errors, spreading misinformation to the international community.

Lu Yuguang simplistically attributed the anti-Chinese incidents in Ukraine to irrational comments made by Chinese netizens. He claimed that some Chinese netizens expressed online hopes for heavy casualties in Ukraine to take away local beauties in the early stages of the war. However, some netizens argued that this was misleading, as the main reason was China's pro-Russian stance, and they were not interested in playing a neutral mediating role in the ceasefire negotiations.

Due to his continuous frontline coverage with the Russian military, Lu Yuguang narrowly escaped being hit by the Ukrainian army several times. In one instance, artillery fire came dangerously close, causing him to wet his pants, and he received urgent medical treatment from Russian military doctors afterward.
