Against the backdrop of the continued deterioration of Sino-U.S. relations, some Chinese students face rigorous scrutiny upon entering the United States. Their phones and computers are examined to determine if there are any connections or information related to the Communist Party. Some students are taken into a "small black room" for questioning and are eventually informed that their F-1 student visas have been revoked, prohibiting them from entering the U.S. for the next five years. However, the specific reasons for deportation are not clearly communicated.

Due to stringent visa issues, the current number of mainland Chinese students studying in the United States has dropped to 289,000 for the academic year 2022-2023. The Chinese Embassy in the United States issued a statement, asserting that discriminatory practices against international students violate the values of freedom and democracy upheld by the United States, and simultaneously harm the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens.
