The Taiwanese entertainment industry has recently been shaken by actress Chiang Tsu-Ping’s public accusation that her former boyfriend, Gong Yiting, sexually assaulted her. The controversy is particularly explosive because Gong is 22 years younger than Chiang and is the son of Gong Meifu, a senior vice president at Sanlih Television. The case has not only ignited a storm within the entertainment and media industries but also triggered intense public discussion on sexual assault and workplace harassment.

The incident first surfaced on August 18, 2025, when Chiang revealed on social media that she had received a private message from another actress seeking help. The actress claimed she had been drugged, sexually assaulted, and secretly filmed nude by a television station employee. Because the alleged perpetrator was suspected of being part of the broadcasting system, speculation and public scrutiny quickly intensified. On September 2–3, Chiang went further, releasing partially obscured photos of the suspect, including a blurred frontal image, and identified him as a 25-year-old TV station employee. She angrily denounced him as a “beast.”

Under mounting pressure, Gong Yiting admitted on September 4 that he had been in a relationship with Chiang from October 2024 until the end of August 2025. However, he denied the sexual assault accusations, claiming their relationship was consensual and alleging that Chiang’s statements were untrue. Chiang immediately hit back, publishing explicit messages Gong had allegedly sent to other female colleagues, including one that read, “I want to rub for a while.” She argued these messages showed a clear pattern of harassment and announced that she had hired a lawyer to formally sue.

The controversy escalated again on September 5, when Chiang revealed further details, accusing Gong of forcing himself on her while she was unconscious and vowing to pursue the case to the very end. That same day, Sanlih Television’s general manager, Kao Ming-Hui, issued an official statement requiring Gong Meifu to step aside from his position in order to cooperate with the judicial investigation. Kao also confirmed that the company had handed over internal investigative materials to the Shilin District Prosecutors’ Office. She reiterated Sanlih’s “zero tolerance for sexual harassment” policy and pledged to safeguard workplace safety.

The public response has been intense. Because the case involves a well-known actress and the family of a media executive, suspicions of power being used to suppress victims have run high. Many praised Chiang’s courage for speaking out, saying she has broken the culture of silence in the entertainment industry and exposed its darker side. On the other hand, Gong’s denials were widely viewed as unconvincing, with online discussions heavily favoring Chiang’s account.

In terms of industry impact, Sanlih Television’s credibility and brand image have taken a hit. Advertisers and business partners are reportedly adopting a wait-and-see attitude, with some reconsidering their cooperation with the network. Labor unions and advocacy groups have demanded a thorough investigation, warning that the case must not be swept under the rug by wealth or influence.

Meanwhile, judicial proceedings are ongoing, and the case remains under close watch by the public. Chiang has emphasized that she will donate the full NT$13 million (approximately RMB 3.02 million) in damages she is seeking to stray animal charities, stressing that her motive is not financial gain but the pursuit of justice and truth. This stance has further elevated her public image and intensified interest in the case’s outcome.
