在日本,AV男優的挑選標準並非以外表為主,相反,越猥瑣越好,尤其是醜男與美女搭配的組合更能迎合市場需求。時間的持久度是一項關鍵考量,最好能配合導演的需求,通常20分鐘左右的影片拍攝需要1~2小時。如果狀態不佳,一次可能需要拍攝五次以上。因此,大部分男優都需要靠吃維他命或其他藥物來維持體力。根據一位資深男優表示,他曾參與拍攝一萬多部片,對戰超過9000位女演員,但每部片酬僅有1.2萬台幣。

這樣的工作需要長期的投入,初期的演員被稱為「汁優」,不能與女優有任何身體上的接觸,頂多當人形立牌。目前女優人數有數萬,而男優相當缺乏。

AV女優的收入差異相當大,像在中國非常受歡迎的蒼井空在日本算是二線,每部片酬約20多萬台幣。頂級的一線女優每部片酬則落在20萬~250萬台幣。像是金字塔頂端的三上悠亞,當時下海的片酬每部高達200萬~250萬台幣,大部分普通女優的收入每部只有8萬~12萬台幣。

日本每年有4000多部AV的產值,在僧多粥少的情況下,許多AV女優面臨無片可拍的窘境,有些被迫接拍重口味的劇情。該產業的鼎盛時期是2010年,部分少女將拍片當成入演藝圈的跳板,想成為下一個飯島愛。

根據統計當時每200個女人就有一人拍過小電影。整個產業的分工相當細,影片中女優的聲音大部分都是透過後製配上去,並不是本人的。這些女優在日本社會普遍受到歧視,如果被發現曾拍過片,將很難找到正式工作或面臨到各種騷擾。她們退役後大部分的職業就是陪酒或是跳脫衣舞。

在日本,AV行業受到嚴格管控,能夠拍攝的公司都是固定的幾家,並且有黑道背景支持。部分女優可能被迫成為某大哥的女人。在當地銷售的AV都需要打馬賽克,而所謂的航空版或是海外版則是沒有馬賽克的,主要銷售市場在歐美地區。

Endurance is a crucial factor, and ideally, it should align with the director's requirements. Typically, shooting a 20-minute video takes 1 to 2 hours. If the condition is not optimal, shooting may need to be repeated five times or more.

Therefore, most male actors need to rely on vitamins or other medications to maintain stamina. According to a veteran male actor who has participated in over 10,000 films, facing more than 9,000 actresses, the pay for each film is only about 12,000 TWD.

This kind of work requires long-term commitment, and novice actors, known as "汁優" (juice actors), cannot have any physical contact with actresses initially; at most, they serve as human signboards. Currently, there are tens of thousands of actresses, but there is a significant shortage of male actors.

The income disparity among AV actresses is considerable. Popular figures like Sora Aoi, who is highly acclaimed in China, are considered second-tier in Japan, earning around 200,000 TWD per film. Top-tier first-line actresses earn between 200,000 and 2.5 million TWD per film. For instance, Saki Miyanaga , a top-tier actress at the pinnacle, was reportedly paid 2 to 2.5 million TWD per film at the beginning of her career, while the income for most ordinary actresses ranges from 80,000 to 120,000 TWD per film.

Japan produces over 4,000 AV films annually, and with large number of actresses, many face the predicament of having no films to shoot. Some are forced to take roles in extreme scenarios. The industry's heyday was in 2010, with many girls considering shooting AV as a stepping stone to enter the entertainment industry, aspiring to be the next Ai Iijima.

According to statistics, at that time, approximately one in every 200 women had experienced shooting adult films. The industry has finely divided roles, and most of the actresses' voices in the videos are added in post-production, not their actual voices. These actresses face widespread discrimination in Japanese society, making it challenging to find formal employment or exposing them to various forms of harassment if their past involvement in adult films is revealed. After retiring, most of them end up working as hostesses or engaging in striptease.

The AV industry in Japan is strictly regulated, with only a few fixed companies allowed to shoot films, often with support from the underworld. Some actresses may be compelled to become associated with certain influential figures. AVs sold locally require mosaic censorship, while so-called aviation or overseas versions are uncensored, primarily targeting the European and American markets.
