A short video that recently went viral online sparked widespread attention, showing a couple having an intense argument on the street, during which a woman appeared to stomp on the windshield of a Porsche. Many netizens speculated that the woman was allegedly “catching a mistress” and angrily damaging the luxury car. The video gained extensive views and sparked heated discussion, quickly becoming a focal point of public debate.
However, on September 6, the Guiyang Public Security Bureau issued an official statement via its “Guiyang Police” account, revealing the truth behind the incident. During routine online monitoring, police noticed the video and launched a thorough investigation. They confirmed that the so-called “couple’s quarrel and smashing of a luxury car” was entirely fabricated. The events depicted were staged by a car rental company owner, surnamed Fu, in collaboration with Tian and Chen, purely to attract attention and generate online traffic.
Authorities emphasized that the video was entirely staged and that no real “couple dispute” or “woman catching a mistress and smashing a car” took place. Since the fake video not only misled the public but also disrupted online order, the individuals involved have been punished in accordance with the law. The Nanming Branch of Guiyang Police imposed a 10-day administrative detention on Fu, while Tian and Chen were each given 5-day administrative detentions.
Following the case’s revelation, many netizens expressed feeling deceived, criticizing such attention-seeking fabrications for wasting social resources and undermining public trust in information. The police also reminded the public to exercise caution with sensational online videos of unknown origin and to avoid sharing or reacting impulsively, in order to prevent the spread of false information.
