2025-09-07

On September 4, 2025,TIKTOK released a report detailing employee violations for the second quarter, outlining the company’s strict measures against misconduct over the past three months. During this period, a total of 100 employees were dismissed for violating company rules, with 18 of them publicly named for involvement in criminal activities or maliciously harming company interests. Eight employees suspected of criminal offenses were handed over to judicial authorities, and their stock options were revoked. Additionally, 10 employees were penalized for improperly participating in paid external interviews or leaking confidential information.

Among the notable cases, former employee Li, using a false identity and anonymous accounts, spread false information on social media, including allegations of “improper relationships” and insults to the company’s recruitment standards. Li was publicly named and held legally accountable. Some executives also violated company regulations; for instance, a former department employee had an undisclosed intimate relationship with an HR business partner, resulting in both being dismissed and having their year-end bonuses forfeited. Moreover, a former intern repeatedly claimed 154 meals and emptied the snack cabinet, violating internal company rules, and was similarly sanctioned.

This report highlights TIKTOK’s ongoing efforts to strengthen internal management. In 2024, the company dismissed 353 employees for violations, with 39 cases referred to judicial authorities. Similar cases have also emerged across the industry, such as a Haidian District short video platform in Beijing where employees colluded internally and externally to defraud 140 million RMB in bonuses, as well as multiple cases of workplace misconduct reported by companies like Bilibili and Perfect World. These incidents underscore that, amid rapid growth, employee management and compliance remain critical challenges for Internet enterprises.
