Recently, a fraud case in mainland China drew widespread attention, triggered by a woman’s heartbreak. After a painful breakup, she was desperate to reconcile with her ex-boyfriend and spent over 20,000 yuan seeking help from a self-proclaimed “love master.” The so-called master promised that by following his instructions, she would be reunited with her ex within 7 to 12 days.
During the process, the woman paid 500 yuan per ritual, and the total expenses exceeded 20,000 yuan. Despite waiting patiently for 12 days, her ex-boyfriend never returned. When she requested a refund, the master refused to return any money, and the promised results never materialized, leaving her both financially and emotionally distressed.
The case eventually went to court. After reviewing the evidence, the court determined that the master’s actions constituted fraud, as he deliberately exploited the victim’s emotional vulnerability to make false promises for personal financial gain, seriously infringing on her property rights and causing psychological harm. The court sentenced the master to six months in prison and publicly announced the verdict as a warning to others.
This incident highlights how people in emotional distress can become easy targets for scams. It also serves as a reminder to the public to remain rational and cautious when confronted with high-cost promises of “love restoration” or “spiritual guidance,” in order to avoid falling victim to fraud.
