26-year-old Ukrainian-born model Karolina emerged as the champion in the 56th edition of the Miss Japan beauty pageant. She moved to Japan with her parents at the age of 5, but it wasn't until 2022 that she officially obtained Japanese citizenship, leading to some questioning the authenticity of her Japanese identity.

Karolina herself mentioned that although there are times when her identity is not fully accepted, and many people do not like her, she is happy to have been truly recognized as a Japanese through this competition.
