On November 16, 2025, a serious stabbing incident occurred in Tokyo’s Akasaka district, Minato Ward. A woman in her forties was attacked by an unknown male assailant at the entrance of a music venue located on the basement level of a commercial building. At the time, the victim was waiting alone to enter for a performance when she was stabbed in the left side of her waist, sustaining a wound approximately five centimeters long, and in the right palm, with a three-centimeter wound. The injuries were classified as severe, but she remained conscious during transport to the hospital and is currently in stable condition. She stated that she did not know the attacker.
According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Witnesses described the suspect as wearing a black hat and white mask, standing approximately 180 cm tall, dressed in black work clothes, and carrying a knife-like weapon. After the attack, the suspect quickly escaped on a shared bicycle heading toward Aoyama. Police have reason to believe he is still armed and have opened a case for attempted murder, actively searching for his whereabouts. As of now, the suspect’s identity and motive remain unknown, and there is no indication of any prior connection to the victim.
Further investigation revealed that the victim is a contracted performer at the Livehouse in the basement of the building. On the day of the incident, she had arrived early to prepare for her scheduled performance. Finding the venue locked, she waited outside alone and was attacked. A female staff member inside the venue heard unusual noises, discovered the victim, and immediately called the police. Two performances were originally scheduled that day—an afternoon show from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and an evening show from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.—but both were canceled due to the incident, and no rescheduling plans have been announced.
The location of the attack is in a bustling central area of Tokyo, approximately 150 meters southwest of Akasaka-mitsuke Station, surrounded by restaurants, office buildings, and commercial facilities with heavy pedestrian traffic. Multiple bystanders witnessed parts of the event. One man passing by recalled hearing muffled cries from the basement and saw a hat-wearing man fleeing in a hurry, while another bystander observed the suspect riding a shared bicycle at an unusually fast pace, seemingly trying to evade detection. Employees working on other floors of the building reported lingering fear and concern for their safety after witnessing emergency vehicles and police arrive at the scene.
As of the latest updates, the Metropolitan Police have intensified patrols in Akasaka and surrounding areas such as Aoyama and Roppongi, reviewed surveillance footage from the scene and nearby streets, and are focusing on tracking the suspect’s escape route. Authorities have also urged the public to report anyone matching the description—black hat, black work clothes, riding a shared bicycle—or any relevant information to the Akasaka Police Station. The motive and identity of the suspect remain under investigation, with law enforcement continuing a full-scale search to prevent further incidents.
