Recently, a criminal case in Jiangsu attracted public attention due to a “gift-related” incident. A man wanted to give his girlfriend a gift but, due to financial difficulties, could not afford an expensive present. To achieve his goal, he secretly took his girlfriend’s gold jewelry while she was asleep and sold it, obtaining a total of 30,000 RMB in cash.
After selling the jewelry, he used 13,140 RMB of the money to create a cash “bouquet” as a gift for his girlfriend, while the remaining funds were used to repay debts and cover daily living expenses. Although he believed his actions were motivated by good intentions and a desire to show care, his behavior involved the misappropriation of another person’s property, which constitutes a criminal offense.
The incident was eventually discovered by the girlfriend, who filed a lawsuit, and the case has been taken up by judicial authorities. The case sparked widespread discussion in society, with many condemning the man’s illegal means of obtaining a gift and raising questions about the boundaries of trust and financial matters in romantic relationships. Experts have emphasized that, regardless of the motive, infringing on someone else’s property is unacceptable. Financial difficulties should be addressed through legitimate means rather than deception or theft. This case serves as a reminder that maintaining respect and trust in intimate relationships is crucial, and rash actions can result in both legal consequences and the breakdown of personal relationships.
