Japan’s first permanent outdoor Pokémon theme park, PokéPark KANTO, will officially open next week, on February 5, 2026, at Yomiuriland in the suburbs of Tokyo. Covering approximately 2.6 hectares (26,000 square meters), the park draws its design inspiration from the Kanto region in the classic Pokémon Red and Green games, aiming to bring the Pokémon universe into a real-world outdoor setting where visitors can experience the thrill of being a Pokémon Trainer.
A key feature of the park is its resident Pokémon ecosystem. According to official announcements, over 600 Pokémon will permanently inhabit the park, allowing visitors to explore different areas and observe their behaviors and interactions, much like in the games. To enhance the immersive experience, the park is divided into two main zones: Pokémon Forest and Sedge Town. Pokémon Forest features winding natural trails where visitors can search for hidden Pokémon amidst dense foliage and mountain paths, creating the feeling of a true in-game adventure. Sedge Town, on the other hand, is a vibrant urban-style area with shops, restaurants, performance stages, and recreated game locations including a Pokémon Center and a Gym, allowing visitors to interact with Pokémon in a city-like environment.
In addition to exploration, the park offers a variety of amusement attractions to increase fun and engagement. A carousel themed around the Eevee family, called “Buibu Eevee Ride,” is designed for families and children, while a Pikachu-themed aerial bicycle ride combines visual spectacle with mild thrills, giving visitors a bird’s-eye view of the entire park. Tickets are available in two categories: the Trainer Pass for general admission and the Elite Trainer Pass, which provides access to exclusive shows and priority access to rides. The initial ticket pre-sale was so popular that it briefly crashed the official website, reflecting Pokémon’s enduring popularity among fans in Japan and abroad.
Furthermore, PokéPark KANTO will offer a range of exclusive merchandise and themed food, including limited-edition collectibles, Pokémon-shaped snacks, and ride-related souvenirs, encouraging visitors not only to play and explore but also to take home a tangible piece of the park experience. Overall, the park represents a milestone for Pokémon-themed entertainment, marking the brand’s first permanent outdoor theme park and offering fans an immersive real-world Pokémon adventure.
