Russia is a country with various ethnic groups, and many minority ethnicities reside in remote regions such as Siberia, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. Their cultures, languages, and religious beliefs differ significantly from those of the Russian majority. However, in the Russo-Ukrainian war, these minority ethnic groups have become cannon fodder for the government. Currently, the soldiers primarily affected in terms of casualties are not from major cities like Moscow or St. Petersburg, but rather from economically underdeveloped or geographically remote areas of Russia. Among them, the Buryats (Mongols) have the highest casualty rate, with a death rate a hundred times higher than Moscow recruits.

The main mobilization in Russia comes from economically underdeveloped or geographically remote areas. Some of these minority ethnic groups are unwilling to sit idly and await fate; some have joined militia groups or sided with the Ukrainian army. Ultimately, their hope is for the homeland to achieve independence.

Major ethnic groups in Russia include:

Tatars: Residing in the Republic of Tatarstan, they are one of the largest Muslim minority ethnic groups in Russia.

Chuvash: Distributed in the Chuvash Republic, they are a Turkic-speaking ethnic group.

Bashkirs: Inhabiting the Republic of Bashkortostan, they have their own language and culture.

Ossetians: Found in North Ossetia and South Ossetia, they have their own language and religion.

Avars: Located in the Republic of Dagestan, they are an ethnic group in the Caucasus region.

Kalmyks: Living in the Republic of Kalmykia, they belong to the Mongolic language family.

Shors: Distributed in the Siberian region, they have their own language and culture.

Yakuts: Residing in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), they are a Turkic-speaking ethnic group.

Mari: Found in the Mari El Republic, they have their own Mari language.
