Unlike earlier titles, which only featured fragmented story segments, this game presented a sweeping narrative that fully depicted the growth of the protagonist Goku, from his early childhood to his climactic battle against King Piccolo at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, becoming a legendary title for Dragon Ball fans of the era.
