漢朝末年的戰國時代，朝廷已經無力統治國家，並對首長們喪失約束及管理能力，各地地方勢力擁兵自重，紛紛起兵造反，欲擴張自身的領土，準備奪取天下，於是各地發生的戰事不斷。

1992年namcot推出的《三國志2：霸王的大陸》，除在紅白機推出外，還在1998年Play Station中的Namco精選輯中收錄。將遊戲舞台設定在這個三國分治的年代，從公元189年開始，並沒有其他時間選項。主要的動作均以指令模式進行。遊戲一開始有單人征戰、雙人征戰及再戰沙場三種模式可供選擇，並分成三個難度等級。與光榮版的主要差別在於武將的設定相當簡易，遊玩的門檻大幅降低。

隨著攻下的城池越多，每月可發布的令牌也越多。德行值越高有助於收編武將。外交系統分為同盟、離間與拉攏。與前作不同的是從原本可選擇的六位君主(劉備、曹操、孫策、袁紹、馬騰、劉璋)，增加一位董卓，另一特點則是可在戰鬥外的時間增加同伴，可強化攻擊的戰術，角色的能力也會提升。

遊戲中共有30個城池，如果專心進攻，很快就能全破。因此，部分玩家喜歡慢慢收集有名的將領，共有15位。透過讀書與戰鬥經驗的累積，可以進行武將的升級。主要的數據有體（體力）、智（智力）和忠（忠誠度）。由於武將的登場時間不同，每位武將的數據提升空間也不同。例如，同樣是武力71的劉備與司馬昭，一開始劉備只有一級，所以最高可以將武力提升到91；司馬昭的初級是3，最高武力只能達到85。至於智力，只要初級低於74，就可以進瀚林院研讀，並升級到89。這樣的設定模式也讓遊戲充滿更多的趣味。

In the Warring States period at the end of the Han Dynasty, the central government lost its ability to govern the country and control local leaders. Regional powers, amassing their own armies, began rebelling to expand their territories and vie for dominance, leading to constant conflicts.

Released by Namcot in 1992, "Romance of the Three Kingdoms II: The Rise of the Tyrant" was not only available on the NES but was also included in the Namco Anthology for the PlayStation in 1998. The game is set in the era of the Three Kingdoms, starting from 189 AD, with no other time options available. The main actions are conducted through a command mode. At the start, there are three modes to choose from: Single Battle, Double Battle, and Battlefield Rechallenge, with three difficulty levels. Unlike the Koei version, the settings for generals are quite simple, significantly lowering the gameplay threshold.

As you conquer more cities, the number of commands you can issue each month increases. Higher virtue values make it easier to recruit generals. The diplomacy system includes forming alliances, sowing discord, and winning over opponents. Unlike the previous version, which allowed players to choose from six rulers (Liu Bei, Cao Cao, Sun Ce, Yuan Shao, Ma Teng, Liu Zhang), this version adds Dong Zhuo. Another feature is the ability to add companions during non-combat times, enhancing attack strategies and improving character abilities.

The game features a total of 30 cities. If you focus on attacking, you can complete it quickly. Therefore, some players prefer to take their time collecting famous generals, with a total of 15 available. Through studying and accumulating battle experience, players can upgrade their generals. The main attributes are Stamina (体力), Intelligence (智力), and Loyalty (忠诚度). Since generals appear at different times, the potential for attribute enhancement varies for each one. For example, both Liu Bei and Sima Zhao start with a strength of 71. Liu Bei starts at level 1, so his strength can be increased to 91. Sima Zhao, starting at level 3, can only reach a maximum strength of 85. For intelligence, any general with an initial intelligence below 74 can study at the Hanlin Academy and upgrade to 89. This setup adds more fun and variety to the game.
