相較於紅白機版本那種二頭身造型與偏重解謎的設計,1992 年由 Sunsoft 在 Sega Genesis(Mega Drive)上推出的《超人》,則徹底回歸美式超級英雄的核心精神。整體風格強調力量、速度與直接的戰鬥爽感,呈現出更貼近漫畫迷心中「鋼鐵英雄」的形象。

誕生於 Sunsoft 的黃金時期,延續他們在 Batman 等作品中累積的動作遊戲經驗。開發團隊充分發揮 Genesis 主機的性能優勢,打造出流暢的高速捲軸效果與層次分明的場景背景。雖然主要在歐美市場受到關注,但其扎實的操作與硬派風格,同樣吸引不少亞洲玩家的青睞。

故事依舊設定在大都會,將面對超人的經典宿敵——Brainiac。這位高智慧的外星反派企圖將整座城市縮小並納入自己的收藏。為了阻止這項瘋狂計畫,必須穿梭於城市街道、地下空間甚至外太空設施之中,逐步摧毀敵方機械軍團。每個關卡最終都設計有魄力十足的頭目戰,強調對戰鬥節奏與能力運用的掌握。

In contrast to the Famicom version’s super-deformed visuals and puzzle-heavy design, the 1992 Superman developed by Sunsoft for the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) represents a complete return to the essence of the American superhero archetype. This version emphasizes raw power, speed, and intense action, delivering an experience much closer to what comic fans expect from the “Man of Steel.”

 

Released during Sunsoft’s golden era—following the success of titles like Batman—the game takes full advantage of the Genesis hardware. It features smooth high-speed scrolling, detailed background layers, and a more dynamic sense of scale. While it gained the most traction in Western markets, its high-quality design also attracted dedicated action game fans in Asia.

The story once again unfolds in Metropolis, where Superman faces off against his iconic nemesis, Brainiac. Brainiac plans to shrink and collect the city as part of his twisted archive. To stop him, Superman must travel across a variety of environments, including urban streets, underground zones, and even outer space installations, systematically dismantling Brainiac’s mechanical forces. Each stage builds toward dramatic boss encounters that test the player’s mastery of Superman’s abilities.

Gameplay in this version is built around fluid, high-mobility combat that blends side-scrolling action with shooting elements. Superman is no longer confined to simple jumps—players can fly freely across the screen, creating a strong sense of speed and aerial control. This freedom allows for rapid transitions between dodging enemy fire and launching counterattacks, reinforcing the character’s agility.

Combat is further enhanced by a powerful special ability system. In addition to standard melee attacks, players can charge and unleash signature powers such as heat vision and super breath (depicted as a whirlwind-like attack). Players must approach each situation strategically, balancing offense, mobility, and resource usage rather than relying on brute force alone.

Overall, this version of Superman successfully captures the character’s defining traits—strength, speed, and heroism—by focusing on fast-paced combat and large-scale battles.
