Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump dispatched Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to hold the most in-depth talks since Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The four-hour meeting aimed to ease diplomatic tensions between the U.S. and Russia. Both sides agreed to establish a dedicated team to gradually restore embassy personnel and explore feasible solutions for promoting peace talks in Ukraine. Additionally, President Trump publicly stated after the meeting that he hopes Russia will rejoin the Group of Seven (G7) and directly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, blaming him for failing to reach a peace agreement with Russia over the past three years.

Trump's remarks quickly sparked widespread discussion on the international stage, especially drawing strong opposition from Ukraine. President Zelensky explicitly stated that Ukraine would not accept any peace agreement reached without its participation and stressed that his country must have a voice in both the war and negotiation process. He further warned the international community against trusting Russian President Vladimir Putin’s promises, emphasizing that Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable.

According to informed sources, the Trump administration has put forward highly controversial demands, requiring Ukraine to provide the U.S. with half of its rare mineral resources as compensation for previous military aid. Additionally, Trump has demanded that Ukraine cede four eastern regions and the Crimean Peninsula to Russia in exchange for a ceasefire agreement. These demands are seen as a serious challenge to Ukraine’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity and could further destabilize the regional situation.

Against this backdrop, the outlook for the Ukraine-Russia war has become increasingly uncertain. Direct negotiations between the U.S. and Russia, along with mounting U.S. pressure on Ukraine, may result in Ukraine being marginalized in international peace talks. However, the Ukrainian government remains firm in its stance, refusing to accept any agreements made without its consent and actively seeking support from other international allies to safeguard its interests.

At the same time, Trump’s public criticism of Zelensky and potential concessions to Russia have raised significant concerns among European allies. Many European nations fear that unilateral actions by the U.S. could weaken NATO unity and impact military and economic support for Ukraine. European Union leaders have stressed that any peace process must be based on international law and ensure Ukraine’s sovereignty remains intact.

Looking ahead, the future of the Ukraine-Russia war will depend on diplomatic maneuvering between the U.S., European countries, and Russia. If the U.S. and Russia push for unilateral agreements, Ukraine may pivot toward strengthening ties with European allies and seeking expanded military support to ensure its national security and territorial integrity. In this complex geopolitical struggle, how various forces coordinate their interests will ultimately determine the final outcome of the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
