On June 8, 2008, at 12:30 PM local time in Akihabara, Japan, a shocking indiscriminate random murder incident occurred. The perpetrator, Tomohiro Kato, was a dispatched employee of Nihon Kogakuin, and due to impending company layoffs, combined with a prolonged lack of friends and romantic relationships, he was severely depressed and had nowhere to vent his emotions. Additionally, he had engaged in multiple online arguments with netizens.

Unable to find his company uniform on June 5, he believed he had been terminated and, as a result, completely unleashed his antisocial personality. He then purchased weapons the next day. On June 7, he began surveying the terrain and road conditions, leaving messages online that hinted at his entire murder plan. In an extremely short period, he attacked and injured 12 people, ultimately causing the death of 7 individuals.

After being sentenced to death, Kato did not appeal and published his autobiography, "Toho Eiyasho," in January 2014. Due to this murder incident, his younger brother suffered prolonged cyberbullying from netizens and tragically took his own life in February 2014, unable to withstand the harassment. Many Japanese netizens showed no empathy and, instead, celebrated the news.

On July 26, 2022, Tomohiro Kato was officially executed, leading to several similar imitation incidents. On January 3, 2024, a woman in her twenties arrived at Akihabara Station from JR Ueno and randomly attacked people on the train, causing minor injuries to four men. Shockingly, the motive behind the crime was simply a desire to kill. Looking back at 2014, Taiwan's subway station also experienced a random murder incident by a 23-year-old man named Cheng Chieh, resulting in the tragic death of four passengers and injuries to 24 others.
