According to Russian media reports, multiple areas in Rostov-on-Don, along the Don River, have recently experienced power outages. The main cause is attributed to issues with the high-voltage system of the Russian power holding company. Authorities have stated that they are working to resolve the problem promptly to restore the normal functioning of the system. Simultaneously, Mosenergosbyt, the largest power company in the Moscow region, announced planned power outages from January 14th to March 1st, with a maximum daily outage duration of 12 hours.

In Novosibirsk, Siberia, a major heating pipeline rupture has disrupted hot water and heating for over 100 households and 12 buildings. Vladivostok port city has reported 3,000 people lacking heating, while Nakhodka city has 6,000 people facing a heating shortage. Similar issues have been reported in other cities such as Yekaterinburg, Volgograd, Saratov, and Perm. Additionally, a recent incident of electrical wiring catching fire in the largest e-commerce warehouse in St. Petersburg has resulted in difficult-to-estimate economic losses.

Experts indicate that, aside from aged and long-neglected equipment and wiring, some pipelines may have suffered damage from pro-Russian individuals or Ukrainian operatives.

Unlike Ukraine, Russia has not postponed its presidential election due to the ongoing war. The year 2024 marks Vladimir Putin's pursuit of a fifth consecutive term.

However, the recent conscription of 500,000 soldiers, severe casualties among frontline troops, and substantial civilian issues, including residents enduring life in sub-zero temperatures, have sparked protests in several cities. This undoubtedly puts immense pressure on Putin, prompting him to express a desire to end the war as soon as possible.

In contrast, Ukraine's current electricity and heating supply remains relatively stable. This conflict is not only a military confrontation but also a battle of wills between the people on both sides. The outcome of the war in the coming years is uncertain, and a final resolution will require negotiations, testing the wisdom of leaders on both sides.
