On October 24, 2025, a dramatic drone strike hit a residential building in Krasnogorsk, a city located in Moscow Oblast, Russia. According to Russian officials, the attack injured five people, including a child, and caused extensive structural damage. The drone reportedly crashed into a 14-story apartment block, triggering a powerful explosion that destroyed two apartments and blew a large hole through the building’s outer wall. The blast wave shattered windows, damaged the elevator shaft and courtyard, and sent debris flying across the area, prompting residents to flee in panic.
Moscow Oblast Governor Andrei Vorobyov confirmed that four of the injured victims were hospitalized with head trauma and fractures, while the child suffered a leg dislocation but was in stable condition. Emergency services arrived quickly, evacuating residents, treating the wounded, and inspecting the integrity of the damaged structure.
In response, the Russian Defense Ministry issued a statement claiming that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 111 Ukrainian drones overnight across 13 regions, including one in the Moscow area. Due to heightened security risks, Moscow’s Zhukovsky and Domodedovo international airports temporarily suspended flights to prevent aircraft from entering active defense zones.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine, the city of Kharkiv was struck by a Russian missile attack on the same day, wounding six people. The incident underscored the ongoing escalation in drone and missile exchanges between the two countries, as both sides increasingly rely on unmanned aerial warfare to target strategic and psychological objectives.
This attack came just one day after Russian forces reported shooting down 139 Ukrainian drones on October 23. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that three of those drones were intercepted while heading toward the capital. The successive waves of attacks and interceptions highlight Ukraine’s continued efforts to penetrate Russian defenses with long-range drones, as well as Russia’s growing struggle to secure its airspace.
Overall, the Krasnogorsk drone strike marks another escalation in the Russia–Ukraine conflict, symbolizing the expanding “drone war” that has increasingly blurred the lines between front-line and civilian targets. For Russia, it raised serious concerns over the safety of its capital region; for Ukraine, it demonstrated both strategic reach and psychological impact deep inside Russian territory.
