為了拍攝電影版，《尋秦記》的籌備工作由古天樂早在數年前就開始，他曾洽購小說版權並著手策劃拍攝。然而，由於檔期問題以及對劇本不滿，影片一度被擱置。直到2014年，古天樂成立新公司後，他重新啟動電影籌拍計劃，並親自召集原班人馬回歸演出，以保留劇集原汁原味的風格。

電影版延續電視劇版本的故事線，講述劇集結局十九年後的情節。此時，秦王嬴政（林峰飾）已經掃平六國，統一天下；而項少龍（古天樂飾）則與家人隱居田園，試圖遠離世事紛擾。然而，新危機悄然降臨：一名現代人Ken意外穿越到戰國時期，並介入秦國與齊國之戰。面對突如其來的挑戰，秦王嬴政不得不尋求久隱江湖的師父項少龍出山相助。師徒二人歷經二十年的分離，終於再次重逢。加上誓言改變歷史、穿梭時空的Ken，三人的相遇勢必引發秦朝新的風波與動盪，也為觀眾展現一場跨越時空的冒險故事。

On November 26, 2025, the first teaser poster for the film adaptation of A Step into the Past (Xun Qin Ji) was released, announcing that the movie is set to premiere in January 2026. The poster confirmed the return of the original cast, including Louis Koo, Raymond Lam, Jessica Hsuan, Esther Kwan, and Tracy Teng, while also introducing powerhouse actors Bai Baihe, Michael Miu, Louis Cheung, and Wu Yue. Fans have expressed high anticipation for the film. A Step into the Past, originally a best-selling novel by Huang Yi, gained immense popularity in 2001 when adapted into a TVB series starring Louis Koo, which is widely regarded as the “pioneer of time-travel dramas.”

Preparation for the movie began several years ago, with Louis Koo acquiring the novel’s rights and starting initial planning. However, due to scheduling conflicts and dissatisfaction with the screenplay, the project was temporarily shelved. It was not until 2014, after Koo established a new production company, that the film project was relaunched. To preserve the essence of the original TV series, Koo personally gathered the original cast to reprise their roles.

The film continues the storyline from the TV series, picking up nineteen years after the series’ ending. By this time, King Ying Zheng of Qin (played by Raymond Lam) has conquered the six kingdoms and unified China, while Xiaolong (played by Louis Koo) has retired with his family, seeking a peaceful life away from political turmoil. However, a new crisis emerges when a modern man named Ken unexpectedly travels back to the Warring States period and becomes involved in a battle between Qin and Qi. Facing this unprecedented threat, King Ying Zheng seeks the help of his long-retired master Xiaolong. After twenty years apart, the master and disciple reunite, and with Ken’s arrival—determined to alter history—the three are set to trigger new waves of chaos and upheaval in the Qin dynasty, creating a thrilling, time-spanning adventure.

The film aims to retain the classic elements of the original series while introducing new characters and storylines, appealing both to nostalgic fans and new audiences. It is expected to be one of the most highly anticipated Chinese fantasy-historical blockbusters of early 2026.
