A dispute recently occurred at a paomo restaurant in Xi’an, unfolding in a rather comical and awkward manner. The incident began when four Indian international students ordered 30 skewers of grilled meat. After the food was served, they counted the skewers themselves and immediately accused the owner of providing only 23, claiming that seven skewers were missing and demanding a refund.

Instead of arguing back, the staff asked the students to count the skewers again on the spot. What followed left everyone present both stunned and amused. During the recount, the four students appeared confused by the numbers, jumping from eleven and twelve straight to eighteen and nineteen, skipping several numbers in between. Unsurprisingly, their miscount once again “confirmed” the supposed shortage of seven skewers. The scene left the owner and staff visibly exasperated.

To clear up the situation once and for all, a staff member personally stepped in and carefully counted the skewers one by one in full view of everyone. The final result was unexpected: there were not 30 skewers, but 31. In other words, the restaurant had actually given them one extra skewer.

With the truth laid bare, the staff member did not hesitate to take back the extra skewer on the spot, doing so with a sense of well-earned relief. The incident ended amid embarrassment and laughter, clearing the restaurant of any wrongdoing and turning the entire episode into a lighthearted anecdote. It also served as a reminder that sometimes, the root of a dispute can be something as simple as counting.
