哆啦A夢〉。

Doraemon has never had an officially recognized “final ending.” Although the creator, Fujiko F. Fujio, drew several short stories with a temporary sense of closure in the early days, these were later followed by renewed serialization. After Fujiko F. Fujio passed away, the official stance became even clearer: Doraemon does not have, and is not intended to have, a definitive ending. Instead, the story continues in various forms, especially through animation and films.

Because of the series’ enormous influence, many touching or dark so-called “endings” have circulated online—such as theories claiming Nobita is in a vegetative state or that Doraemon stops functioning after running out of power. However, all of these are purely fan creations. The publishers and the Fujiko F. Fujio Studio have repeatedly clarified that such versions are not official and emphasized that the world of Doraemon will continue.

Looking back at the creative background, Fujiko F. Fujio did write several emotionally conclusive short episodes, including the well-known “Goodbye, Doraemon.” These stories were often created to accommodate magazine changes or editorial needs and were never meant to serve as a true finale. In fact, after these episodes were published, the series quickly resumed, with the characters and world continuing to expand—clearly showing that the author had no intention of bringing the story to a permanent close.

After the author’s death in 1996, public discussion about a possible “ending” intensified. In response, Shogakukan and the Fujiko F. Fujio Studio issued multiple statements reaffirming that Doraemon is a work without an ending. They have consistently stated that there will be no definitive conclusion in the future. From the official perspective, the heart of Doraemon lies in everyday companionship rather than moving toward a final chapter, allowing the story to live on across different eras and media.

As a result, the manga itself ended with the author’s passing, but Doraemon as a franchise did not. The anime continues with new episodes, theatrical films are released regularly, and special projects keep introducing the series to new generations. The characters, themes, and storytelling have evolved with the times while preserving the original spirit.

In summary, Doraemon does not lack an ending because of incompleteness—it lacks one by design. In the official vision, Doraemon will always be by Nobita’s side, and their story will always be ongoing. It is precisely this idea of endless companionship that has allowed Doraemon to remain a timeless classic, transcending generations, cultures, and ages.
