SNK成立於1978年,是一家歷史悠久的日本遊戲開發公司。在1980年代和1990年代,開發眾多經典的街機遊戲,包括《餓狼傳說》(Fatal Fury)、《格鬥天王/拳皇》(The King of Fighters)、《越南大戰/合金裝甲》(Metal Slug)幕末浪漫:月華劍士(The Last Blade)等。這些遊戲使得SNK成為當時街機市場的領導者,並將遊戲移植到自家製作的家用主機。

然而,2001年10月30日,SNK宣布破產,因為推出3D化的遊戲失敗,導致嚴重虧損。SNK將智慧財產權轉移到同年8月1日成立的PLAYMORE公司。2009年7月7日,PLAYMORE公司更名為SNK Playmore。2015年,該公司被中國三七互公司併購。在2016年發布《KOFXIV》後,該公司再次將其名稱更改為SNK。到了2020年11月,沙烏地阿拉伯王儲透過Electronic Gaming Development Company收購了SNK 33.3%的股份,並在2022年4月將其持股提升到96.18%。

餓狼傳說系列(Fatal Fury):SNK早期的格鬥遊戲代表作之一,首創雙線制的格鬥設定。代表作是1996年的《餓狼傳說RB 特別版》,補足《龍虎之拳》首創的必殺技概念,成為之後格鬥遊戲不可或缺的設定。

侍魂系列(Samurai Shodown):以日本武士為背景的格鬥遊戲,突出武士刀戰的風格和戰術性。代表作是1994年底發售的《真侍魂:霸王丸忍地獄變》,隨著怒氣槽的提升,一記重刀就能對敵人造成一半的血量損失,瞬間就能逆轉戰局帶來高度刺激體驗。

幕末浪漫:月華劍士(The Last Blade)以日本幕府末年為舞台的格鬥遊戲,採刀劍對決戰鬥,背景音樂相當優雅。儘管1997年推出的初代受到好評,次年推出的續作則新增6位角色,整體的節奏增快,大幅提升可玩性。但該系列被抱怨最多的是平衡性不佳。

SNK was founded in 1978 and is a long-standing Japanese game development company. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, they developed numerous classic arcade games, including "Fatal Fury," "The King of Fighters," "Metal Slug," and more. These games made SNK a leader in the arcade market at that time and they later ported the games to their own home consoles.

However, on October 30, 2001, SNK declared bankruptcy due to the failure of their 3D games, which resulted in significant losses. SNK transferred its intellectual property to PLAYMORE, a company established on August 1 of the same year. On July 7, 2009, PLAYMORE was renamed SNK Playmore. In 2015, the company was acquired by China's 37Games. After releasing "KOFXIV" in 2016, the company reverted to its original name, SNK. By November 2020, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince, through the Electronic Gaming Development Company, acquired 33.3% of SNK's shares, later increasing their stake to 96.18% in April 2022.

The King of Fighters Series: One of SNK's most renowned IPs, this classic fighting game series features stylish character designs and flashy combos. The 1997 edition is particularly beloved among fans.

Metal Slug Series: This classic 2D side-scrolling shooter, released in 1996, is known for its smooth gameplay, humorous settings, and stunning pixel art style. The third installment, released in 2000, combines the strengths of its predecessors and introduces a branching system for added gameplay depth. The prices of ROM cartridges for these games are astonishingly high, leading to the production of some bootleg versions.

Fatal Fury Series: One of SNK's early fighting game series, Fatal Fury introduced the two-lane fighting system. The standout title is "Fatal Fury Special" released in 1996, which complemented the concept of special moves pioneered by "Art of Fighting" and became an essential feature in future fighting games.

Samurai Shodown Series: Set against the backdrop of feudal Japan, this fighting game series emphasizes swordplay and tactical combat. The standout title is "Samurai Shodown II," released in late 1994, where a well-timed heavy slash can deal significant damage to opponents, leading to intense and thrilling gameplay experiences.

The Last Blade Series: Set in the final years of the Tokugawa shogunate, this fighting game series features sword duels and beautiful background music. While the initial release in 1997 received praise, the sequel released the following year added six new characters, increased the overall pace, and significantly enhanced replay value. However, one common complaint about the series is its lack of balance.
