Mainland China's live streaming shopping platforms may sometimes involve the following fraudulent activities:
1. Misrepresentation of product quality: Products advertised during live streams may claim to have high quality or specific functions, but the actual received items may not meet the description and could be of inferior quality.
2. False advertising: Some merchants may use exaggerated advertising or false claims to attract customers, but the actual products may not deliver the promised effects or quality.
3. Inadequate after-sales service: Adequate after-sales service is crucial in live streaming shopping, but some merchants may provide poor after-sales support, leaving consumers unable to effectively resolve issues or return products.
4. Counterfeit brands and pirated goods: Some merchants may sell counterfeit brands or pirated goods during live streams, violating intellectual property laws and potentially exposing consumers to legal risks and financial losses.
5. Price deception: Merchants may use inflated discounts or deceptive pricing to lure consumers into purchasing products, but the actual selling price may differ significantly from the advertised price.
To avoid encountering these issues, consumers should carefully read product descriptions, check reviews and ratings from other consumers, and choose reputable merchants and platforms for their purchases. Additionally, it's important to keep records of transactions for future reference.
Recently, there have been several incidents in mainland China involving the use of fake personas for live streaming shopping. One such case involves a young internet celebrity in her twenties named "Liangshan Mengyang." She rose to fame in the early days through live streaming from Liangshan, Sichuan Province, claiming to have a tragic background to garner sympathy. She alleged that both of her parents had passed away, forcing her to drop out of school to take care of her siblings. However, in reality, her family had long been receiving various welfare benefits provided by the Chinese government, significantly improving their standard of living. Despite this, she continued to dress in old clothes and present herself as impoverished during her live streams. Following an investigation, the person in charge of the company was sentenced to 1 year and 2 months in prison and fined 100,000 RMB, while "Liangshan Mengyang" was sentenced to 11 months in prison and fined 80,000 RMB.
