On March 25th, Shohei Ohtani, a baseball player for the Los Angeles Dodgers, held a press conference in the United States with a prior announcement that he would not take questions. Media outlets initially predicted that he would simply read from a prepared statement and leave. However, to their surprise, Ohtani provided additional clarification, stating that his former interpreter, Ippen Mizuhara, had stolen $4.5 million from his account to repay significant gambling debts. Ohtani emphasized that he had never been involved in gambling, whether related to baseball or any other sport, and only discovered Mizuhara's actions a few days prior. He accused Mizuhara of lying to everyone, claiming that the transfers were made with his permission, when in reality, Ohtani had no knowledge of them. He has since hired the prominent law firm Berk Brettler to pursue legal action.

However, some media outlets still have doubts, questioning how Mizuhara could have transferred such a large sum—$4.5 million—without Ohtani's authorization. Internal sources suggest that Mizuhara's role extended beyond interpretation to handling personal matters, such as real estate purchases or car transactions. Additionally, when ESPN initially reported the story of Ohtani lending money to Mizuhara, questions arose as to whether anyone had discussed it with him or if he had been involved in gambling, ultimately letting Mizuhara take the blame. There are also questions about why an illegal organization would allow Mizuhara to accumulate such a large debt and continue gambling, suggesting possible involvement or endorsement from Ohtani. It seems that until investigations by Major League Baseball and legal authorities conclude, the skepticism from American media will persist.

Financial advisors may have access to clients' funds under certain authorizations, similar to how Mizuhara may have used Ohtani's money. While cases of financial advisors misappropriating clients' funds have occurred in Taiwan, they are not common. Most financial advisors are trained professionals who adhere to ethical standards, but there are still dishonest individuals who abuse their positions for fraud or theft. Situations that could lead to financial advisors stealing clients' funds include:

1. Selling fraudulent investment schemes or plans to deceive clients.

2. Manipulating clients' accounts for unauthorized transactions or transferring funds to their own accounts.

3. Providing false financial reports or information to conceal clients' true financial situations for personal gain.

4. Using clients' identity information for identity theft, leading to fraud or asset theft.

To prevent financial advisors from stealing clients' funds, clients should remain vigilant and consider the following:

1. Regularly review investment portfolios and financial reports to ensure their authenticity and accuracy.

2. Do not easily trust financial advisors' false promises or overly guaranteed investment plans.

3. Maintain open communication and promptly ask financial advisors about any unclear questions or suspicions.

4. Choose reputable financial institutions or professionals regulated by supervisory authorities to ensure safe and reliable financial services.
