Mizuhara used Ohtani's account to transfer a large amount of US dollars without Ohtani's knowledge by changing the bank setting, and the amount may be higher than the initially reported $4.5 million. Therefore, Ohtani can be considered a victim of the entire incident.

When returning to the United States from South Korea, Ippei Mizuhara was detained by US law enforcement agencies. He has already hired a lawyer and is willing to engage in plea bargaining to seek a reduction in sentence, which could be considered a white-collar crime. The FBI also personally questioned Ohtani, which may have been one of the reasons for his previous performance being affected.

It was later confirmed that everything Ohtani stated at the press conference was entirely accurate. Initially, Mizuhara attempted to cover up his crime by falsely claiming that Ohtani was aware and willing to repay the gambling amount, leading to two different versions of the ESPN report at the time. After a team meeting in South Korea, Mizuhara privately approached Ohtani in the hotel, claiming significant gambling debts and using Ohtani's funds. Ohtani immediately contacted his agent, informed the Dodgers team, and his lawyer, only to discover that Mizuhara had been lying and attempting to implicate him.
