Since its debut in 1991, "Street Fighter 2" has released multiple versions, each bringing different changes and improvements. Here is a detailed overview of these versions:

Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior (March 1991)
The first version, launched in arcades, utilized Capcom's CPS1 hardware. Players could choose one of eight characters to play, and after defeating the other seven opponents, four hidden bosses would appear.

Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition (March 1992)
The number of characters increased to 12. This version introduced the 2P feature, allowing two players to use the same character with different colors to fight against each other. This version was very popular and led to various derivative pirated versions appearing on the market.

Street Fighter 2: Turbo (December 1992)
Primarily aimed at fixing bugs related to pirated and hacked versions. Character moves were adjusted, such as adding a fireball move for Chun-Li and allowing Dhalsim to teleport. The overall game pace was significantly accelerated.

Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers (September 1993)
The hardware was updated to Capcom's CPS2, and the number of characters increased to 16. Character portraits and music were completely remade, and the game pace was consistent with the Champion Edition. Special moves underwent significant changes, such as Ryu's fireball turning into a flaming projectile and Ken's heavy Shoryuken setting opponents on fire. The game introduced a combo system and supported up to four arcade machines connected for an 8-player tournament. Based on the tournament results, players were divided into winners and losers brackets for 2-on-2 matches. There were a total of three rounds, ultimately determining the rankings of the eight players. Due to the high equipment requirements and the need for players to frequently change positions, this tournament format was not widely adopted at the time.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (March 1994)
Known as Turbo outside Japan, this version further increased the game speed. It introduced a super meter and super combo system, making it the fastest version in the series. Players could adjust the speed within the game, and the popular character Akuma made his debut. If a player did not lose a single round before the final stage against M. Bison, Akuma would appear and defeat Bison with a single move, Shun Goku Satsu.

Hyper Street Fighter 2: The Anniversary Edition (2003)
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Street Fighter, Capcom released this version for the PS2. Players could choose any character from the previous five versions, retaining their movesets. In January 2004, an arcade port was released, marking the first time the series moved from home consoles to arcades.

Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (November 2008)
Released on PS3 and Xbox 360, this version featured revamped graphics and music. Players could choose between the new or classic graphics while playing, and online play allowed for matches with players worldwide.

Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers (May 2017)
Released on the Switch, this is the final version in the Street Fighter 2 series. It featured high-resolution graphics and introduced new character settings for Evil Ryu and Violent Ken.

Over 26 years, the official releases included eight versions along with various cross-platform ports. According to media reports, the series has generated at least $10 billion in revenue, solidifying its place as a classic in gaming history.
