Russia's Recent Attacks on Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure
Recently, Russia launched 53 missiles and deployed 47 drones, conducting large-scale bombings on Ukraine's energy facilities. The Ukrainian military successfully intercepted 35 missiles and 46 drones.
Ukraine's largest energy company, DTEK, reported that during the airstrikes on June 1, two of its thermal power plants were severely damaged, causing power outages for over 55,000 households. Even in the capital, Kyiv, rolling blackouts have begun. This attack resulted in a nearly 40% loss of Ukraine's electricity supply.
In response to the crisis, on June 3, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy announced that citizens could purchase generators for personal use, and it started implementing power supply restrictions. They also plan to import electricity from Europe to alleviate the power shortage.
