During his 24-year professional career (1963–1986), Rose achieved numerous remarkable feats, most notably his accumulation of 4,256 hits, a record that still stands in MLB history. He spent the majority of his career with the Cincinnati Reds, but also had brief stints with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Montreal Expos. Rose was known for his passionate and hard-charging playing style, earning him the nickname "Charlie Hustle."
