Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory is an OVA series set in the Universal Century timeline, consisting of 13 episodes that originally aired from May 1991 to September 1992. As a crucial link in the Gundam franchise, it continues the aftermath of the One Year War, depicting the conflicts and conspiracies between the remnants of the Principality of Zeon and the Earth Federation, while also revealing the origins of events that influence later Gundam series.

The story centers on former Zeon ace pilot Anavel Gato, who successfully seizes the GP02 nuclear-capable prototype Gundam and heads to the Kimberley Mine Base in Africa. With the support of Zeon remnant leader Major Nore Bundy, he escapes Earth aboard an HLV and returns to the Reef Space, where he rallies surviving Zeon forces in Earth's orbit to launch Operation “Stardust” against the Earth Federation. Gato pilots the GP02A to attack a Federation fleet review at Kimmey Island, using a nuclear weapon to destroy approximately two-thirds of the fleet. In the ensuing battle, both the GP01Fb and GP02 are destroyed, highlighting the intensity and brutality of the conflict.

Simultaneously, Lieutenant Colonel Shima Karahau leads marine forces to hijack two space colonies, sending one toward the Moon, which is later redirected toward Earth using facilities in the lunar city of Von Braun. The Delaz Fleet initially plans to secure the colonies’ descent and engage the Federation’s orbital fleet, but internal betrayal occurs. Shima, promised support by the Federation, turns on his allies, while Delaz, taken hostage, commits suicide. At the same time, the Jamitov faction within the Federation attempts to use the SOLAR SYSTEM II system to destroy the colonies, portraying themselves as the ultimate saviors of Earth and undermining the influence of the Koenig faction after Zeon’s surrender. Gato seizes the chaos to break through the Federation’s defenses, ultimately destroying the control ship of the SOLAR SYSTEM II system. On November 13, UC 0083, the colony impacts Earth, but contrary to the Federation’s expectations, it lands not on the Jaburo headquarters but in the plains and granary areas of North America. Following the colony incident, the Jamitov faction exploits public panic to establish the Titans, seizing control of the military.

The narrative not only illustrates the horrors of war but also delves into the psychological struggles and loyalty conflicts of its characters. Anavel Gato, known as “The Nightmare of Solomon,” embodies the determination and idealism of the Zeon remnants, while the Earth Federation reveals its vulnerabilities and internal conflicts.
