1990 年,科樂美(KONAMI)為 Famicom(紅白機/NES)推出的《瘋狂大射擊 》(Parodius Da! – 神話からお笑いへ –)是一款徹底自我惡搞自家名作射擊遊戲《宇宙巡航艦(Gradius)》的作品。雖然這是街機版的移植作,但 Famicom 版本以極致的圖像表現、音效設計,以及無可比擬的幽默感,挑戰主機的極限,至今仍被視為「Famicom 史上最傑出的作品之一」。

故事設定在曾經繁榮的「Parodius」世界,突然出現一個巨大的邪惡角色——章魚。為了恢復失落的和平,以及尋回某種「具體不明的東西」,正義的章魚之父帶著 Big Viper、TwinBee 等夥伴,踏上荒謬又宏大的宇宙冒險旅程,整個故事充滿超現實感與無厘頭的幽默。

操作上,保持極為經典的設計,使用 A 鍵進行能力升級,B 鍵則用來對空或對地攻擊。從四種角色中選擇,分別是 Big Viper、章魚、TwinBee 以及 Pentaro,每個角色的攻擊方式各有不同,並模仿《Gradius》與《TwinBee》的升級系統設計。還有特有的「貝鈴系統」,可射擊空中的貝鈴改變其顏色,並取得特殊效果,例如用叫聲攻擊的「擴音器」或暫時增大的「巨大化」。另外,Famicom 版還加入「輪盤膠囊」機制,當取得特定膠囊時,升級格會像輪盤般旋轉,運氣好就能獲得強力裝備,增添遊戲的隨機趣味。

Released in 1990 by Konami for the Famicom (NES), Parodius Da! – From Myth to Laughter is a title that fully parodies Konami’s own classic shooter, Gradius. Although it is a port of the arcade version, the Famicom adaptation pushed the hardware to its limits with impressive graphics, sound, and a one-of-a-kind sense of humor. Even today, it is widely regarded as one of the Famicom’s greatest achievements.

The story is set in the once-prosperous world of Parodius, which is suddenly invaded by a massive and absurdly evil entity—an enormous octopus. To restore lost peace and reclaim a mysterious “something,” the octopus’s father sets out on a ridiculous yet epic cosmic adventure alongside allies such as Big Viper and TwinBee. The narrative is intentionally surreal and whimsical, mixing humor and grand spacefaring drama in a delightfully absurd way.

 

Gameplay is straightforward, using the A button for power-ups and the B button for aerial or ground attacks. Players can choose from four unique characters—Big Viper, Tako (the octopus), TwinBee, and Pentaro—each with distinct attack patterns. The game draws inspiration from the upgrade systems of Gradius and TwinBee. It also features the signature “bell power” system, where shooting airborne bells changes their color and grants special abilities, such as a megaphone attack or temporary enlargement of the character. The Famicom version adds a roulette-style capsule mechanic, where collecting specific capsules causes the power-up gauge to spin like a roulette wheel, giving players a chance to obtain powerful upgrades.

Parodius consists of seven stages, each packed with visually outrageous and unpredictable design. Players encounter enormous dancing obstacles like the “Giant Slap Dancer Rika,” traverse candy-themed fantasy worlds, and even face Moai statues riding treasure ships in Japanese-inspired stages. The soundtrack complements the chaos, featuring classical pieces such as The Can-Can and the Radetzky March arranged in Konami’s signature upbeat electronic style, creating a festive and playful atmosphere.

The game’s greatest achievement lies in how it translated the arcade version’s energy into an 8-bit Famicom environment without losing its impact. As a late Famicom title, it features advanced techniques for the time, including multi-layered scrolling and massive boss animations. Despite its comedic appearance, the gameplay is a solid, challenging shooter, balanced by generous continue options that make it accessible to both beginners and experienced players.

Culturally, Parodius Da! brought a breath of humor into a genre previously dominated by heavy themes of space and war, laying the foundation for the long-running Parodius series. Its surreal world, inventive stage designs, and constant surprises ensure that it continues to captivate retro gaming enthusiasts, earning its place as one of the most fun and memorable shooters in Famicom history.
