控制器方面,保留Xbox 360手柄的經典設計,但在手感和按鍵反應上進行改良。微軟還推出改進版的Kinect感應器,支援更加精確的動作捕捉和語音控制功能,可以透過語音操作主機,甚至進行手勢控制。然而,Kinect的價格相對較高,並且受到軟體開發者的支持有限,並未成為Xbox One的主流功能。

Beyond providing powerful gaming capabilities, it emphasizes family entertainment and multimedia functions, aiming to merge gaming with entertainment services and become the core device in the living room.

The console is equipped with an 8-core processor manufactured by AMD, running at 1.75 GHz, along with 8GB of DDR3 memory. In terms of storage, the console initially offered a 500GB hard drive, with later versions introducing 1TB or even larger capacities. To meet the demand for increasingly high-resolution games, the Xbox One features an AMD Radeon graphics chip, supporting 1080p output. The Xbox One’s strengths lie in its robust multimedia integration. The powerful hardware configuration enables solid performance in both gaming and video, with later updates and revisions enhancing support for higher resolutions. When connected to cable TV, users could switch channels directly through its interface, making entertainment control easy for all family members. The Kinect sensor added fun and convenience with multiple interactive features, and the controller design was highly praised for its excellent grip and realistic vibration feedback, particularly effective in racing and shooting games.

However, the console also had notable drawbacks. At launch, Microsoft’s strategy included restrictions like “digital game region-locking” and a “24-hour online verification” requirement, which sparked a backlash among players. These restrictions led users to feel their ownership over games was limited, particularly affecting those without consistent internet access. Microsoft eventually rescinded these policies, but the initial controversy affected player perception of the Xbox One.

Despite technical advancements, Kinect’s high cost and limited usage scenarios meant that most players did not purchase it. The large space requirements and lack of full support from games led developers to gradually reduce Kinect integration, making it a secondary accessory for the Xbox One. Additionally, the Xbox One’s performance fell slightly behind its competitor, the Sony PlayStation 4, as it couldn’t match the same visual quality in most cross-platform games, leaving some graphics-focused players disappointed.

Overall, the Xbox One’s estimated sales were around 58 million units. Although Microsoft never released official sales numbers, it was clear that the Xbox One’s performance fell short of both the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch. Early sales were not ideal, primarily due to the high price point and initial restrictive policies, leading to low launch sales. Over time, however, Microsoft released revised versions like the Xbox One S and the high-performance Xbox One X, which resolved some performance issues and added 4K support, helping the console gain traction.

Microsoft also strengthened its Xbox Game Pass service in the latter part of the Xbox One’s lifecycle, offering a subscription-based game library that allowed players to access a large selection of games at a low cost, significantly increasing the Xbox One’s appeal. Particularly in the North American market, this increased player engagement and helped bolster sales. Nevertheless, the Xbox One could not surpass the PlayStation 4 in terms of market performance, especially in Asia, with overall sales remaining far lower than those of its competitors.

In summary, the Xbox One showcased impressive hardware specifications and multimedia integration, but its early marketing missteps and a relatively weaker game lineup prevented it from securing a dominant position in the mainstream market.
