在劇情設定上,玩家扮演一位剛從監獄出來的罪犯。他本以為服刑結束就能重新開始,卻發現自己被一位神秘金主保釋,而這筆人情債非還不可。為了在期限內償還這筆巨額債務,只能回到擅長的老本行——犯罪。行動包括潛入民宅、偷竊貴重物品、破壞目標設備,甚至完成由黑道委託的高風險任務。隨著時間不斷流逝,壓力也逐漸上升,如果無法在期限內累積足夠金額,後果將不堪設想。

核心玩法以第一人稱潛行為主,強調計畫、觀察與工具運用,而非硬碰硬的戰鬥。玩家可在三個大型區域自由探索,每個區域的住家、商店與據點都有不同的安全配置與巡邏模式,從高科技豪宅到充滿危險人物的街區,都必須審慎判斷才敢下手。雖然可以使用武器,但直接對抗往往只是最後手段,在大多數情況下,更合理的作法是避開人員、關閉警報、利用工具打開路線,並以最安靜的方式完成任務。

工具系統是本作的一大特色。玩家起初只能使用簡單的撬鎖器或撬棍,但隨著遊戲推進,可獲得更多高科技設備,例如偵查用無人機、能麻痺警衛的十字弓、能讓整棟建築陷入沉睡的瓦斯罐、能掃描貴重物品位置的探測器,以及控制住目擊者的束帶等。若情況失控,也可以使用球棒或其他武器以暴力解決問題,但風險極高,往往會引來警察追捕。玩家需要根據每場任務的情報挑選最適合的工具組合,若裝備不足,很可能遭遇難以突破的防線。

採用Roguelite式的成長模式,每完成一次任務,便能獲得資金與經驗,逐步解鎖超過15種技能。這些技能會大幅影響玩家的行動方式,例如提升背包容量以攜帶更多工具與贓物、提升警戒感知以更早察覺危險、強化潛行能力讓腳步聲與行動更難被察覺。熟練的玩家可以靠這些能力挑戰更高價值的地點,並接下難度更高但報酬更豐厚的委託。

本作不僅提供單人模式,也支援最多四人的線上合作,可以與朋友共同策畫與執行大型竊案。在合作模式中,玩家之間可以分工合作,一人負責監控巡邏路線,一人破壞警報,一人撬鎖入內,另一人則負責搬運贓物到逃跑車。這種多人協作帶來不同於單人模式的節奏與樂趣,也讓許多任務更具變化性與策略性。此外,遊戲也支援背叛同伴的玩法,玩家若心懷不軌,也可以在任務完成後獨吞贓物,為合作過程增添不確定性。

“Crime Simulator” is a crime-themed action simulation game developed by the one-person Polish studio CookieDev. First released on Steam in June 2025, the game quickly gained significant attention, selling over 310,000 copies and earning an 81% positive rating. It also exploded on YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok, accumulating tens of millions of views—including a feature video by popular streamer Markiplier—which further amplified its popularity. In December 2025, the game officially launched on Xbox Series X|S, with a PlayStation 5 version scheduled for early 2026, and a Switch 2 version currently in development, making it a high-visibility indie title across multiple platforms.

In the story, players take on the role of a criminal newly released from prison. Believing he could finally start over, he discovers that his release was actually arranged by a mysterious benefactor—and the debt must be repaid. To return this enormous favor before the deadline, he has no choice but to go back to what he’s good at: committing crimes. These include breaking into homes, stealing valuables, sabotaging equipment, and taking on high-risk missions assigned by crime syndicates. As time ticks down, the pressure intensifies—failure to earn enough money in time will lead to dire consequences.

The core gameplay focuses on first-person stealth, emphasizing planning, observation, and tool usage rather than head-on combat. Players can freely explore three large open zones, each with homes, shops, and compounds featuring unique security setups and patrol patterns. From high-tech mansions to dangerous urban neighborhoods, every target requires careful judgment. While weapons exist, direct confrontation is usually the last resort. In most cases, the optimal approach is to avoid people, disable alarms, open pathways with tools, and complete objectives as quietly as possible.

The game’s tool system is one of its standout features. Players start with simple items like lockpicks or crowbars, but as the game progresses, they gain access to advanced gear such as scouting drones, crossbows that can incapacitate guards, gas canisters that put entire buildings to sleep, scanners that detect valuables, and zip-ties for restraining witnesses. If things go out of control, players can also resort to weapons like bats to resolve the situation through force—but the risks are enormous, often triggering police pursuit. Choosing the right equipment set for each mission is essential; being underprepared may result in facing defenses that are nearly impossible to break through.

The game adopts a roguelite progression system. Each completed mission rewards players with money and experience, gradually unlocking more than 15 skills. These abilities significantly shape how players operate—for example, increasing inventory capacity to carry more tools and loot, boosting detection awareness to spot danger earlier, or strengthening stealth so footsteps and movement become harder to notice. With enough skills, players can attempt more lucrative locations and take on harder, high-reward assignments.

Beyond skills, the game also features a “special abilities” system. Through vending machines, players can obtain limited-use bonuses such as “cancel all police chases once” or “instantly repair all broken equipment.” These rare abilities can completely turn the tide in critical moments. Since each one can only be used once per run, using them wisely adds an extra layer of strategy.

The player’s hideout serves as another hub for growth. This secret base is not just a resting place—it’s essential for upgrading abilities. A bed increases maximum health, training equipment improves carry capacity, and a treadmill boosts movement speed. As players continue expanding the hideout, it gradually transforms into a full-fledged criminal operations center, offering stronger support for future missions.

In addition to the single-player mode, the game supports online co-op for up to four players. Friends can collaboratively plan and execute major heists. In co-op, roles can be divided—one player monitors patrols, another disables alarms, a third breaks into the building, while the last transports stolen goods to the getaway car. This introduces a completely different rhythm and enjoyment compared to solo play, making missions more varied and strategic. The game also supports betrayal mechanics: a player with bad intentions can steal the loot at the end and escape alone, adding uncertainty and chaos to co-op sessions.

 

The developers continue to support the game with free updates. The Xbox version launched with the v1.2 update, adding the Arizona countryside map, motion sensors, and driveable stolen vehicles, enriching the gameplay. The “Jewelry Update” (v1.3), set for early 2026, introduces specialized jewelry heists, a thief arena mode, and an “Impostor Mode,” further enhancing replayability and showing the developer’s long-term commitment to the project.

Since its release, Crime Simulator has received strong praise from players. Many highlight that despite its crime theme, its emphasis on stealth, planning, and tool usage creates much deeper gameplay than simple destruction. Combining roguelite progression with immersive stealth, the game has become a standout in the genre. Compared to Thief Simulator, it offers faster pacing, more complex systems, and far better co-op options—making it highly appealing to players who enjoy high-risk, high-reward mechanics.

Overall, Crime Simulator builds a dangerous yet captivating world through intense time pressure, high-freedom criminal missions, a robust tool system, and continuous content updates.
