在玩法上,主打近距離戰鬥與環境互動。核心武器是一只名為「遠古護臂(Ancient Gauntlet)」的神聖遺物,這件裝備不僅能作為近戰武器使用,還能與特定環境物件產生互動,開啟通路、觸發機關,甚至改變戰場局勢。此外,還能解鎖一種隱藏的副武器,為戰鬥帶來更多變化。由於資源極為有限,生命回復與護臂能量並非隨時可得,如何分配使用、選擇進攻或撤退,將直接影響生存機率。

還有多場規模宏大的頭目戰,部分首領甚至屬於隱藏或非必要挑戰,專為願意深入探索的玩家準備。隨著進度推進,可以蒐集護臂的祕密零件,逐步解鎖其完整力量,同時獲得角色能力上的成長與強化。此外,還能找到古代守護者的墓穴,將這些沉睡的存在喚醒,讓他們在戰鬥中短暫地與你並肩作戰,為孤獨的旅程帶來一絲扭曲卻珍貴的助力。

在故事後期,將被迫做出關鍵選擇,選擇不同的道路,這不僅會改變面臨的挑戰,也將直接影響劇情走向與最終結局。一共設計三種截然不同的結局,在旅途中做出的行動與決定,將決定亞當究竟是成功逃離、被世界同化,還是迎來更難以想像的命運。

Asthenia is a highly atmospheric action-adventure game infused with dark fantasy and cosmic horror elements. Scheduled for release in 2027, it is entirely developed and published by Matthaios Lappas as an independent project. The game casts players into a decaying, collapsing otherworld where there are no clear directions or safeguards, forcing them to rely on observation, judgment, and survival instinct to gradually uncover the truth behind this dying realm.

The story follows Adam, an ordinary man who has suffered a major personal tragedy and is suddenly stranded in an unfamiliar dimension. This world is being slowly consumed by a mysterious, rotting disease, and every corner of it is steeped in decay and despair. Players will journey through abandoned towns, ruined industrial complexes, ancient temples, twisted ruins, and unsettling high-elevation structures. Though these places appear deserted at first glance, they are in fact filled with hidden dangers and long-buried secrets.

 

Ruling these lands are ancient, god-like cosmic entities locked in a war of unknown origin. As exploration deepens, players must piece together the reasons behind this conflict while also uncovering the source of the corrupting disease that is devouring everything. The world is not inhabited by higher beings alone; cursed creatures, distorted monsters, and tortured souls roam the shadows, actively hunting the player and turning every expedition into a tense and oppressive struggle for survival.

Gameplay in Asthenia emphasizes close-quarters combat and environmental interaction. The player’s primary tool is the Ancient Gauntlet, a sacred relic that functions both as a melee weapon and as a means of interacting with specific elements of the environment, such as mechanisms, barriers, and pathways that reshape the battlefield. A secret secondary weapon can also be unlocked, adding further tactical depth. Resources are scarce, and both health recovery and gauntlet energy are limited, making every decision—whether to fight, retreat, or conserve supplies—critically important.

Combat is not limited to direct confrontation. The game encourages players to use traps and destructible environmental objects to overcome enemies by exploiting terrain and timing. Enemy encounters vary in number and difficulty, ranging from common foes to powerful hidden enemies and bosses. These encounters often involve significant risk, but success can yield valuable rewards or consequences that shape future progress.

The game features several epic-scale boss battles, including secret and optional ones designed for players willing to explore deeply and test their skills. As the journey continues, players can discover hidden gauntlet components that unlock its full potential, along with upgrades that enhance Adam’s abilities. In addition, players can locate the tombs of ancient guardians and awaken them, allowing these fallen beings to fight alongside them for brief moments, offering rare assistance in an otherwise lonely and hostile world.

At a pivotal point in the story, players must choose between diverging paths. This decision affects not only the challenges they face but also the narrative direction and ultimate outcome of the story. Asthenia features three distinct endings, each determined by the player’s actions and choices throughout the journey, defining whether Adam escapes, is consumed by the world, or meets an even more unsettling fate.

Overall, Asthenia is an unforgiving experience. There are no mini-maps or quest markers to guide the player; progression depends entirely on environmental awareness, careful exploration, and interpretation of subtle clues. Through scattered notes, paintings, voiceovers, and indirect storytelling, the game’s lore and mysteries gradually unfold. It is a bleak, solitary, and oppressive adventure in which survival is never guaranteed—and those who fail to endure may ultimately be swallowed whole by the world known as Asthenia.
