1989年12月23日在SEGA MD平台推出的《戰斧》（ゴールデンアックス/Golden Axe）是由經典大型街機移植，隔年在PCE推出同名版本，之後更在電腦、PS3、XBOX360、PS2、WS及手機上推出相關版本。由於當年銷售數據相當亮眼，SEGA趁勝追擊，又推出2~3代、戰斧後傳及戰斧Dual格鬥遊戲的續作。

1991年12月27日《戰斧2》（ゴールデンアックスII/Golden Axe II）由SEGA發行及製作，隔年推出歐美版跟街機版本(Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder )。續作仍是橫向移動的設計，復刻版有在Xbox360、PlayStation2&3、PSP、Wii線上、手機iOS及NS線上平台推出。在PC、PS4、Xbox One販售的SEGA Genesis Classics中也有收錄戰斧2。

玩家可以從三位主線人物中挑選一位，有使用斧頭的矮人Gilius Thunderhead、 使用雙手劍的Ax Battler、長劍的亞馬遜女戰士Tyris Flare。除武器上的差異外，每位戰士可以使用的魔法也不同。遊戲主要有兩種模式，如果是普通模式(Normal mode)則是依照劇本設定走，有七大關卡，分別是拉發其村莊(Ravaged Village)、遺址(Ruins)、塔(Tower)、惡龍喉嚨地穴(Dragon's Throat Cave)、城門(Castle Gates)、城堡(Castle)、頭目房間(Dark Guld's Chamber)。

另一種則是對決模式(Duel mode)，總共有15輪，每輪都要打倒特定的敵人或是敵人們，場景設定都是一樣。雖然玩法與前作都差不多，但是還是有許多操作上的改良，例如若同時按跳躍及攻擊，對敵人的傷害比較大，是比較有效的攻擊招式，還可以從左右方的丟擲敵人。最大的改善是魔法使用，在初代按下魔法鈕，一下就會消耗殆盡。二代則是可以控制使用時間，避免瞬間將魔法能量耗盡。每次關卡結束後，都會依據玩家的表現進行評分，並給予獎賞。遊戲全破後會有最終分數跟獎賞。

"Golden Axe" (ゴールデンアックス/Golden Axe), released on December 23, 1989, for the SEGA Mega Drive platform, is a classic arcade port. The following year, a version was released for the PC Engine, and subsequent versions were released on computers, PS3, XBOX360, PS2, WonderSwan, and mobile phones. Due to its impressive sales figures at the time, SEGA continued its success by releasing sequels, including "Golden Axe II" and "Golden Axe III," as well as spinoffs like "Golden Axe: The Duel" fighting game.

"Golden Axe II" (ゴールデンアックスII/Golden Axe II) was released on December 27, 1991, developed and published by SEGA. The following year, versions for North America and Europe, as well as the arcade version titled "Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder," were released. The sequel retained the side-scrolling design and saw releases on platforms such as Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 & 3, PSP, Wii (online), iOS, and Nintendo Switch (online). "Golden Axe II" is also included in the "SEGA Genesis Classics" collection available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

In "Golden Axe II," players can choose from three main characters: Gilius Thunderhead, a dwarf wielding an axe; Ax Battler, who uses a two-handed sword; and Tyris Flare, an Amazonian warrior with a longsword. Each character has different magic abilities, in addition to their unique weapons. The game offers two main modes: Normal mode, which follows the story with seven main stages (Ravaged Village, Ruins, Tower, Dragon's Throat Cave, Castle Gates, Castle, and Dark Guld's Chamber), and Duel mode, which consists of 15 rounds where players must defeat specific enemies in the same setting.

Although the gameplay remains similar to its predecessor, "Golden Axe II" includes many improvements in controls and mechanics. For instance, pressing jump and attack simultaneously results in a more powerful attack, and players can throw enemies to the left or right. One of the most significant improvements is the use of magic. In the original game, pressing the magic button would deplete the entire magic meter instantly. In the sequel, players can control the duration of magic use, preventing the entire energy bar from being consumed at once. At the end of each level, players are scored based on their performance and awarded accordingly. Upon completing the game, players receive a final score and rewards.
