1987年8月30日，卡普空在日本推出格鬥街機遊戲《快打旋風》（ストリートファイター/Street Fighter）。至今仍有不少續作持續上市，是卡普空的招牌遊戲之一。在1988年12月4日，遊戲移植到PC Engine CD-ROM²平台，並更名為《街頭快打》（Fighting Street，ファイティングストリート）。

故事描述隆（Ryu）和肯（Ken）在經過嚴格的訓練後，決定開始環遊世界，挑戰各地的格鬥高手，追求成為最強的格鬥家。每場格鬥為三戰兩勝制，限時99秒。若在限時內未將對手擊倒，則以殘餘血量最多者勝出。

遊戲共有五個舞台，包括日本、美國、中國、英國和泰國。需要挑戰十位對手，支援雙人對打。主角隆（Ryu）為1P，2P只能選擇肯（Ken），由於他們是師兄弟關係，兩人可出的招式都相同，有波動拳、昇龍拳和旋風腿。

在日本舞台，會先遇到寺廟的和尚烈（Retsu），主要使用少林寺拳法。接著會遇到忍者激（Geki），在富士山區域進行戰鬥，擅長瞬間移動和忍術。成功通關後會進入擊破磚瓦的加分區，迅速按下重拳能快速獲得分數，同樣有時間限制。

在美國舞台的第二關，會遇到使用踢拳的喬（Joe），以及在拉什莫爾山國家紀念公園的黑人拳擊手麥克（Mike）。需要注意麥克的重拳，獲勝後進入敲木板的加分區，限時內擊破所有木板就能取得高分。

在第三關，會先遇到在萬里長城的李（Lee），擅長八擊拳，然後移至香港，遇到擅長使用螳螂拳的元（Gen）。加分區與第一關的擊破磚瓦相同。

第四關是英國，有善於摔角的高大龐克巴迪（Birdie）和會使用雙棍術的伊格爾（Eagle）。

最後的舞台是泰國，兩位對手阿登（Adon）和沙加特（Sagat）都是泰拳高手，需要特別注意大頭目沙加特威力驚人的虎刃波。

使用十字鍵來控制移動方向，按上進行跳躍，下則可蹲下。按I是揮拳，II是腳踢。

PCE版本有兩大密技，首先是當敵人過於難纏時，可在戰鬥時按暫停讓對方停止移動，這時候拼命攻擊就能獲勝。

當取得高分記錄排名時，輸入以下四種數字。標題畫面出現時，按十字鍵的左+I+II+選擇，就能操作這些隱藏密技。在排名榜上輸入"．AS"，就可自由選擇想要挑戰的舞台，還可以看結局或是到加分區。在排名榜上輸入"．HU"，就能增加四次台數，加上原本的三台數，共有七台數。在排名榜上輸入"．LK"，只要使用十字鍵跟選擇就能輕鬆使出三種大招。如果敵人在右邊，按左+選擇就能使出波動拳。若敵人在左邊，按左下+選擇就能使出昇龍拳。敵人在右邊就按左+選擇，就能運用旋風腿。在排名榜上輸入"．SD"，就能將前三種以上功能都使用，是最強的指令。

由於當年資訊不發達，因為遊戲相當受歡迎，於是開始有都市傳說。例如有隱藏人物印地安酋長跟在第二關的拉什莫爾山國家紀念公園。只要在兩個同樣數字的秒數，例如99秒，用昇龍拳攻擊左邊的華盛頓石像，就在他的右邊耳處拿到藏鑰匙，前往祕密關卡夏威夷，這些傳言事後證實都是錯誤資訊。

整體而言，快打旋風的難度並不高，主要靠三招就能簡單破關。對方只要被擊重就會大量失血，當年許多店家怕賺不到錢紛紛將難度調高。

On August 30, 1987, Capcom released the arcade fighting game "Street Fighter" (ストリートファイター/Street Fighter) in Japan. To this day, there have been numerous sequels, making it one of Capcom's flagship games. On December 4, 1988, the game was ported to the PC Engine CD-ROM² platform and renamed "Fighting Street" (ファイティングストリート).

The story follows Ryu and Ken, who, after rigorous training, decide to travel the world and challenge fighters from various regions in their pursuit of becoming the strongest martial artists. Each bout consists of a best-of-three matches format with a time limit of 99 seconds. If a knockout isn't achieved within the time limit, the winner is determined by the fighter with the most remaining health.

The game features five stages set in Japan, the United States, China, England, and Thailand. Players face challenges from ten opponents, and two-player mode is available. Ryu is the designated 1P character, and Ken is the only option for player 2P, given their mentor-student relationship. Both characters share the same moveset, including Hadoken, Shoryuken, and Tatsumaki Senpukyaku.

In the Japan stage, players encounter Retsu, a monk from a temple who specializes in Shaolin-style martial arts. Next is Geki, a ninja, fought in the Fuji Mountain area, adept at teleportation and ninjutsu. Successfully clearing a stage leads to a bonus round where breaking bricks within a time limit yields additional points.

The second stage in the United States introduces Joe, a kickboxing expert, and Mike, an African-American boxer, in the Rushmore National Memorial Park. Be wary of Mike's powerful punches. Winning this stage leads to a bonus round where breaking all wooden boards within a time limit results in high scores.

The third stage begins in China with a fight against Lee, skilled in Eight Extremities Fist, followed by a move to Hong Kong where players encounter Gen, a master of Mantis Fist. The bonus round is similar to the first stage's brick-breaking challenge.

The fourth stage set in England introduces Birdie, a large punk wrestler, and Eagle, a staff-wielding martial artist.

The final stage takes place in Thailand, with opponents Adon and Sagat, both skilled in Muay Thai. Special attention is needed for the formidable Tiger Shot of the end boss, Sagat.

Controls involve using the directional pad for movement, up for jumping, down for crouching, and I for punching while II is used for kicking.

For the PC Engine version, two notable cheats are available. During a challenging fight, players can pause the game to halt the opponent's movement, allowing for strategic attacks.

When achieving a high score, entering specific codes and the title screen appears using the directional pad, I, II, and select buttons unlocks hidden features. For example, entering "．AS" on the leaderboard allows players to freely choose stages, view endings, or access bonus rounds. Typing "．HU" increases the credit count, providing seven credits in total. Inputting "．LK" enables easy execution of special moves using the directional pad and select button. The most powerful code, "．SD," combines the functionalities of the previous three cheats.

Due to limited information in those years and the game's popularity, urban legends emerged, such as a hidden character, an Indian chief, and a secret level in the Rushmore National Memorial Park during the second stage. These rumors were later confirmed to be misinformation.

Overall, Street Fighter's difficulty is not particularly high, primarily relying on mastering three moves to easily progress. Opponents suffer significant damage when hit with a powerful attack, prompting many arcade operators to increase the difficulty to ensure profitability.
