1992年4月27日，由HAL Laboratory製作的經典Game Boy遊戲《星之卡比》（星のカービィ/Kirby's Dream Land）由任天堂在日本發行。同年8月1日推出單人模式，記憶體容量為512K。重製版分別於2011年6月的3DS Virtual Console，及2023年3月16日的Switch Online上市。二代於1995年3月21日推出。該遊戲獲得不錯的評價，總銷售量超過500萬套，至今仍然保持著持續的人氣，是任天堂的重要IP之一。

故事描述一個離地球很遠的夢幻之地小星星，「噗噗噗之國」的居民利用神奇的星星在空中玩耍及工作。然而某日的晚上，貪吃的帝帝帝王帶領手下偷走夢境之地的所有食物跟珍貴的閃閃星。為了拯救居民的生活，一名旅行中的小男孩卡比踏上冒險之旅，準備拿回被奪走的食物與星星。

這款GB遊戲的移動方式是以2D橫向卷軸進行，最多能有六個生命格，吃到散落在各處的食物就能恢復生命力。遊戲的特色之一是能夠吸收敵人或物體，然後在口中吞嚥或吐出，如果吐出敵人就會化成五角星形子彈。除了左右移動外，還可以透過吸氣來飛行，吐氣就能停止飛行。

由於沒有存檔設定，當遊戲挑戰失敗時需要重新開始，關卡沒有時間限制。按A鍵能夠跳躍，按B鍵可以將敵人吸入或吐出嘴巴，同時也能進行飛行。需要跳過障礙並擊敗敵人，擊敗頭目就能往下關前進。累積足夠的積分就能得到額外的生命。由於是初代，吸入敵人後並不能獲得新的能力。吃到辣咖哩或薄荷葉可以在短時間內吐出火球或空氣泡，而拿到炸彈或麥克（Mike）則能對前方敵人或全畫面敵人造成傷害。

遊戲共有五個關卡，分別是：1. Green Greens、2. Castle Lololo、3. Float Islands、4. Bubbly Clouds、5. Mt. Dedede。其中的頭目有Poppy Bros. Sr.、Lololo、Kracko Jr.等，主要頭目包括Whispy Woods、Lololo and Lalala、Kaboola、Kracko以及最終魔王King Dedede。

遊戲中有兩大秘技。當標題畫面出現時，按住下鍵、選擇鍵以及B鍵，就可以進入設定模式，最多有六個生命格，增加9條生命，還可以進行聲效測試，其中包含19首歌曲和33種音效。此外，當標題畫面出現時，按上鍵加A鍵以及選擇鍵，就能進入隱藏的獎勵遊戲（Extra game）。

在遊戲進行時，按下暫停鍵並等待幾秒鐘，就會發現卡比在跳舞。另外，遊戲中存在一個bug，當碰到第四位小頭目Bubbly Clouds時，卡比會掉下瀑布。旁邊有一顆薄荷，落下時吞食薄荷後就會融入在背景之中，但接觸水後這個bug就會消失，當來到下個房間時狀況恢復正常。

On April 27, 1992, the classic Game Boy game "Kirby's Dream Land" (星のカービィ), developed by HAL Laboratory, was released by Nintendo in Japan. It was introduced on August 1 of the same year in North America, The single-player mode with a memory capacity of 512K. Remakes were released on June 2011 for the 3DS Virtual Console and on March 16, 2023, for the Switch Online. The second series was launched on March 21, 1995. The game received favorable reviews, selling over 5 million copies, and remains popular to this day as one of Nintendo's important IPs.

The story revolves around a small star in a fantastical land far from Earth called Dream Land, where the inhabitants, known as the "Puff Puff Kingdom" residents, use sparkling stars to play and work in the sky. However, one fateful night, the gluttonous King Dedede and his minions steal all the food and the precious Sparkling Stars of Dream Land. To save the lives of the residents, a young traveling boy named Kirby embarks on an adventure to retrieve the stolen food and stars.

The game features 2D side-scrolling movement, with a maximum of six life bars. Players need to collect scattered food items to restore health. A distinctive feature is the ability to inhale enemies or objects and either swallow or spit them out. Spitting out enemies turns them into star-shaped bullets. In addition to moving left and right, Kirby can fly by inhaling air and stop flying by exhaling.

Due to the lack of save settings, failing a challenge in the game requires restarting. There is no time limit for levels. Pressing the A button allows jumping, while the B button inhales or spits out enemies. Flight is also possible. Players must overcome obstacles and defeat enemies to progress, with defeating bosses allowing advancement to the next level. Accumulating enough points grants extra lives. As it is the first generation, inhaling enemies does not grant new abilities. Eating spicy curry or mint leaves allows Kirby to temporarily spit out fireballs or bubbles. Obtaining bombs or the Mike ability can respectively damage enemies in front or across the screen.

The game consists of five levels: Green Greens, Castle Lololo, Float Islands, Bubbly Clouds, and Mt. Dedede. Notable bosses include Poppy Bros. Sr., Lololo, Kracko Jr., Whispy Woods, Lololo and Lalala, Kaboola, Kracko, and the final boss, King Dedede.

The game features two major secrets. When the title screen appears, holding down, select, and the B button allows entry into the configuration mode, where up to six life bars can be set, and nine extra lives can be added. Sound effect testing is also available, including 19 songs and 33 sound effects. Additionally, when the title screen appears, pressing up, A, and select allows access to the hidden extra game.

During gameplay, pressing the pause button and waiting a few seconds reveals Kirby dancing. Furthermore, there is a bug in the game. When encountering the fourth mini-boss, Bubbly Clouds, Kirby falls down a waterfall. There is a mint nearby, and swallowing it while falling causes Kirby to blend into the background. However, touching water removes this bug, and normal gameplay resumes upon entering the next room.
