2010年5月23日率先在北美發行的Wii遊戲《超級瑪利歐銀河2/超級馬力歐銀河2》（スーパーマリオギャラクシー2/Super Mario Galaxy 2），2015年1月14日在Wii U下載板上市。2代受到市場更高的評價，也是瑪利歐的3D作品首次推出續作。

延續前作《超級瑪利歐銀河》的操作及舞台設計，需要在各銀河穿梭收集力量星星，累積一定的星星數量才能解開後段的關卡。總共由七個世界所組成，包含49個銀河，擊敗每關的頭目才能往下個世界前進。故事描述蘑菇王國正在慶祝百年一次的星塵節，瑪利歐受到碧姬公主的邀請前往赴約，途中碰到奇可王子，給予旋轉的能力。沒想到庫巴吞下星星後巨大化，除攻擊城堡以外，還擄走碧姬公主，準備在外太空建立自己的王國。

瑪利歐展開追趕後，碰到路過的奇可，協助將星球改造成類似瑪利歐形狀的星艦， 之後還碰到奇諾比奧探險隊及膽小的弟弟路易吉。關卡以外太空銀河系為背景，為了救回被庫巴魔王擄走的碧姬公主，瑪利歐於是來到宇宙展開救援行動。除了色彩鮮艷畫面設計外，玩家更可以進行360度上下左右移動，鏡頭也會配合拉進或拉遠。每個小星球關卡都需要打敗頭目，並取得星星，而最終頭目庫巴也會在最後關卡出現，最多可兩人同時出現在螢幕上，同心協力的邊收集道具或星塵，另一邊攻擊敵人。

避免後期的難度過高，有銀行響導的設定，如果在同一關卡持續挑戰失敗太多次，就會有NPC角色羅潔塔協助通關，但獎賞只有一顆銅星。遊戲出現許多各式各樣的星球外，也會出現滾動木桶及天空世界等特殊景像關卡。拿到的果實也具有特殊功能如加速、變身氣球漂流、發現隱藏路線。有三個檔案可存取，並有七個角色可選，而前作有火球瑪利歐、蜜蜂瑪利歐與鬼魂瑪利歐，這次更增加岩石瑪利歐及雲朵瑪利歐，大大添加遊戲趣味性。

這次新增角色有瑪利歐的夥伴~綠色小恐龍耀西，除了協助玩家跳的更高，跟超任版一樣，可以利用舌頭抓住物品及吞食敵人。部分關卡可以騎著耀西在移動，吃到三種不同的水果，會有短暫的特殊能力，分別是如高速衝刺、氣球漂浮、發光照出隱藏通道。

The Wii game "Super Mario Galaxy 2" (スーパーマリオギャラクシー2) was first released in North America on May 23, 2010, and later made available for download on the Wii U on January 14, 2015. The sequel received even higher acclaim from the market than its predecessor, marking the first time a 3D Mario game had a direct sequel.

Building upon the gameplay and level design of the original "Super Mario Galaxy," players navigate various galaxies to collect Power Stars, which are required to unlock subsequent stages. The game is composed of seven worlds, including 49 galaxies, and players must defeat the boss of each stage to progress to the next world. The story begins with the Mushroom Kingdom celebrating the centennial Star Festival. Mario, invited by Princess Peach, sets off to join the festivities and encounters a Luma that grants him the spin ability. However, Bowser consumes a star and grows to an enormous size, attacking the castle and kidnapping Princess Peach, intending to build his empire in outer space.

Mario embarks on a chase, meeting a passing Luma that transforms into a spaceship resembling Mario. Along the way, he also encounters the Toad Brigade and his timid brother Luigi. The levels are set against the backdrop of outer space galaxies, with the objective of rescuing Princess Peach from Bowser. In addition to the vibrant and colorful graphics, players can move 360 degrees in all directions, with the camera zooming in and out as needed. Each mini-planet stage features a boss battle where players must obtain a star, culminating in a final showdown with Bowser. The game allows up to two players to cooperate on the same screen, with one player collecting items or star bits and the other attacking enemies.

To mitigate the game's increasing difficulty, a Banktoad feature is included. If players repeatedly fail a level, an NPC character named Rosalina will offer assistance, but the reward will only be a bronze star. The game features various types of planets, including rolling barrels and sky worlds. Obtained fruits grant special abilities such as speed boosts, balloon-like floating, and revealing hidden paths. There are three save files and seven selectable characters. Alongside returning forms like Fire Mario, Bee Mario, and Ghost Mario, new forms such as Rock Mario and Cloud Mario are introduced, greatly enhancing the game's enjoyment.

A notable addition is Mario's partner, Yoshi, the green dinosaur. Yoshi helps players jump higher and, similar to the SNES version, can use his tongue to grab items and swallow enemies. In certain levels, players can ride Yoshi, who gains temporary abilities by consuming three different types of fruits: running at high speeds, floating like a balloon, and glowing to reveal hidden paths.
